Mauve Split Woven Basket
Mauve Split Woven Basket
Over a thousand artisans across Rwanda, including one hundred fifty refugees at two refugee camps, collaborate with this non-profit organization to create brightly colored and boldly patterned baskets.
The artisans use natural fibers indigenous to Rwanda and source the materials from local markets. It takes between 24 and 40 hours to make each Mauve Split Woven Basket.
They earn fair, consistent wages for their work. On average, they earn forty percent of the wholesale price compared with just five to ten percent in normal wholesale structures. The non-profit organization invests all of their profits into women’s business education and vocational training in Rwanda, so women can build and sustain their own livelihoods.
